The libavformat library provides some generic global options, which can be set on all the protocols. In addition each protocol may support so-called private options, which are specific for that component. Set a ","-separated list of allowed protocols. Protocols prefixed by "-" are disabled. All protocols are allowed by default but protocols used by an another protocol nested protocols are restricted to a per protocol subset. Protocols are configured elements in FFmpeg that enable access to resources that require specific protocols.

We need the actual wall clock time of video data from a camera which delivers via rtsp. I have read around that there are things like RTCP sender reports and such on the low level containing this info, and I have seen indication that it is somehow parsed by ffmpeg. What is the easiest way to get to this information?

Best wpuld be command line dump of the time of the first frame, but rendering it somewhere, or even hacking ffmpeg would be doable too. Very thanlful for help, as we really need this to sync the video data to sensor data form other sources. Moritz Barsnick.

Re: getting wall clock time from rtsp stream. Yes, ffmpeg's source code fits to those findings. So you would actually have to edit the source. That assumes this PTS is useful for you it's easy to extract from the first frame via ffprobebut at least it would be flexible.

Ok, yeah, sounds like work and a litle cumbersome for production use, but yeah. I was thinking and googling a bit more about my thoughts I'm not sure the PTS is a good place to store a "real" time, but I couldn't find much info on that. Yet ffmpeg would need to gain a capability to forward the value and to write this, I think.

You could also consider an option to add the wallclock to stream metadata automatically - this wouldn't get lost along the way, and could automatically land in the output stream. But go ahead, do suggest something to devel, and let's see what they think is sane.

The ntp is really important for synchronization, and it would be cool if we would not have to patch our own ffmpeg. I would like to propose a patch to devel for this. There isn't a single solution to this problem online that I could find. After reading the ffmpeg documentation I stumbled upon the solution. This might be a good thing to add to the wiki under troubleshooting:. By default the udp buffer size that ffmpeg uses is not large enough to hold an entire frame's worth of data for an HD image at a reasonable bitrate.

The symptom is that the received image will be smeared down from some point vertically. It may not happen on all frames. That seems to work ok for a 2Mbps feed, 5fps, color, at p. Increase if you're still getting smeared images.

Yes was just letting you know how to set TCP without using Options field as that drop down is controlling it. Most stuff I have seen points to the introduction of the circular buffer here as when smearing issues started. Others also talk about some OS buffers, but have not had time to track it down. Yup - same thing happens for me too. Thanks to a little project I keep an eye on I finally got around to testing this some more. I saw this little snippet a while back and made the change last week.

Going to monitor it for a while then try on my main machine. Using FFplay was helpful to confirm it could work with ffmpeg then was just a case of replicating. Also, any idea why the kernel's UDP buffer makes a difference? Shouldn't the kernel be delivering the UDP datagrams to ffmpeg, and leaving the responsibility to ffmpeg to wait until it has received an entire video frame before rendering it on screen?
